Russia looks for Pak-Afghan link in Moscow metro bombings

Moscow, Mar 31 : As security experts fear more attacks, Russia is looking for a suspected link of militant organisations in Pakistan and Afghanistan to the terrorist groups in North Caucasus which might have helped in carrying out the suicide bombings in Moscow’s Lubyanka and Park Kultury stations.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has already said the blasts in Moscow subways could have been organised with support from abroad, including from so called ”no-man’s land” on the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

”I do not rule this out, nothing can be ruled out here,” he said on the sidelines of a Foreign Ministers meeting of Arctic states in Canada, hinting the possible involvement of militant groups from Pakistan and Afghanistgan in the Moscow metro blasts.

”Moscow is well informed about the so-called ”no-man’s land” on the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan,” where ”the terrorist underground has entrenched itself,” he said.

”We know that many terrorist attacks ‘not only in Afghanistan, but in other countries too’ are plotted in that area… Sometimes, the trail leads to the Caucasus,” RIA Novosti news agency quoted Lavrov as saying.

Lavrov also called for closer coordination of international efforts to tract down terrorists and their sources of finance.

”It is a global terrorist network and it should be combated globally on the basis of UN and other international decisions,” he said.

Blasts may have Pakistan link: Moscow

Vladimir Radyuhin

MOSCOW: The Moscow Metro bombings may have a Pakistan connection, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov as security experts warned of more terrorist attacks. (The death toll reached 39, according to agencies).

Mr. Lavrov suggested that militants operating on the Afghan-Pakistan border may have helped organise the Moscow attacks.

The death toll in Monday’s suicide bombing of two Moscow subway stations rose to 39 as a woman wounded in the attack died in hospital on Tuesday.

Five victims remain in critical condition and more than 70 in hospital.

“We all know very well that clandestine terrorists are very active in ‘no man’s land’ on the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan,” said Mr. Lavrov on the sidelines of a Foreign Ministers meeting of Arctic states in Canada.

“It is there many terrorist attacks carried out not only in Afghanistan and in neighbouring countries, but also in Central Asia and as far as the Caucasus, have been prepared.”

Closer coordination

Mr. Lavrov called for closer coordination of international efforts to tract down terrorists and their sources of finance.

“It is a global terrorist network and it should be combated globally on the basis of U.N. and other international decisions,” he said.

In the past two months, Russian security services killed two Al-Qaeda emissaries — both of Arab origin — in the entourage of Chechen rebel leader Doku Umarov, who proclaimed himself “Emir of the Caucasus” .

Experts did not rule out more terror strikes in Moscow and other Russian cities. Investigation sources told the Kommersant daily that about 30 suicide bombers had recently been trained in Turkey and in North Caucasus.

Nine of them have already carried out their missions, including two women suicide bombers who staged Monday’s twin attacks.

Experts recall that the deadliest bombing of the Moscow Metro in February 2004, which killed 41 people, was followed by a series of suicide attacks in Moscow over the next few months that included the downing of two passenger planes and a bomb blast outside a subway station.

The 2004 wave of terror culminated with the seizure of a school in North Ossetia, in which 334 hostages died, including 186 children.

Pakistan must close terror camps: Chidambaram

Hasan Suroor|| The Hindu ||London, March 25, 2010||Published by Alertpak on March 28, 2010

Union Home Minister of India P. Chidambaram on Thursday urged Pakistan’s “friends” like Britain and the U.S. to put pressure on it to shut down terror camps operating from its soil.

Warning that Pakistan-based groups posed as much threat to the West as they did to India, he told the BBC, “The camps must be closed. Training must come to an end.”

Mr. Chidambaram, who discussed counter-terror measures with his British counterpart Alan Johnson during a visit to the U.K. earlier this week, regretted that Pakistan had failed to respond to India’s persistent plea for it to rein in terror groups

“Nothing so far,” was his reply to a question whether there had been any progress.

Asked how could Pakistan be persuaded, he said: “The U.K., the U.S. know the answer to that question better. Certainly, we have not been able to persuade Pakistan. It is Pakistan’s friends, mutual friends, who would have to bring pressure on Pakistan.”

He said it would be “naïve” for Western countries to think that terrorists operating from Pakistan posed a threat to India alone.

“Once you allow these terror groups to train, recruit and build capacity to strike, they can strike in India, they can strike in the U.K., they can strike in Denmark as they were planning out of the Karachi project,” he said.

He added: “No country is truly safe…Don’t think that India alone is under threat. Every country is under threat from these groups and the Lashkar-e-Taiba today is like the Al Qaeda, a multi-country group.”

Security lapse

Answering questions about the recent terror attack in Pune, the Home Minister admitted that there was a security lapse.

“Pune was a case where it slipped through the cracks. Pune was a target. There was specific intelligence shared by the Central government with the Maharashtra police and the government. The area, Koregaon Park, was under a security cover. Three times advisory was given to German Bakery and its managers acknowledged the advisory on every single occasion, but they did nothing. They did not even take the minimum security precautions. So, it is an unfortunate case that I would say slipped through the cracks.”

Describing it as “a blot,” he said the lesson to be learnt from the Pune case was that “when there is intelligence, pointed intelligence and advisories are issued, people must cooperate…shops, establishments, hotels, malls must take minimal security precautions.”

About the Pune bombing’s alleged Pakistan connection, he said: “Nothing so far has been brought to my notice.”

David Headley names serving Pak Army men behind 26/11

March 27, 2010

Serving Pak Army men behind 26/11 ??

Zeenews Bureau||Mumbai, 26th March, 2010

New York: In a major revelation, Pakistani-American terror suspect David C Headley has confessed about the involvement of serving Pakistani Army officials in the 26/11 attacks, thus exposing for the first time the Pakistan’s direct link in the deadly attacks.

It has mantained the role of ‘non-state’ actors in planning and executing the attacks that killed around 160 and injured scores at three places in Mumbai.

The New York Times and an Indian magazine have confirmed that Headley admitted the same.

Till now the American investigators were referring to the handlers as A,B,C,D. But Headley’s confession has established their identity as major Sayeed, Major Iqbal, Major Sameer and Colonel Shah.

His admission has clearly exposed the close relationship between Al Qaeda and the Pakistani militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and the Pakistan Army, according to a former CIA analyst.

Headley has admitted to his own role in the planning of the Mumbai atacks in a Chicago court and India is trying to get direct access to him.

Headley’s revelations around a European cell were particularly disturbing, Bruce Riedel, who was a member of the National Security Council in the Clinton administration and is now at the Brookings Institution was quoted as saying by the New York Times Friday.

They showed that “Al Qaeda still has a significant operational infrastructure somewhere in Europe,” he said.

Details of Headley’s activities, contained in his plea agreement with US authorities, “raise troubling questions about how an American citizen could travel for so long undetected from his home base in Chicago to well-established terrorist training camps in Pakistan,” the Times said in a report from Islamabad.

Charged with helping plan the 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai, Headley, 49, moved effortlessly between the United States, Pakistan and India for nearly seven years, training at a militant camp in Pakistan on five occasions, according to the plea agreement.

Headley started his career as a militant scout with LeT, a terrorist group established decades ago with the help of the Pakistani military and intelligence agencies.

Lashkar was supposed to have been outlawed in Pakistan in 2002, but it remains active behind the veil of a public charity in Pakistan and, according to Headley’s plea, continued to be assisted by former Pakistani military officials in recent years.

The plea names a retired Pakistani military officer, Col. Abdur Rehman Hashim Syed, known as Pasha, as Headley’s main contact with Lashkar. Earlier prosecution documents said that Colonel Syed was arrested last year in Pakistan on unspecified charges, but then released.

In early 2009 Colonel Syed introduced Headley to Muhammad Ilyas Kashmiri, a Qaeda operative in North Waziristan, according to the document.

The visit in February 2009 may finally have put Headley on the radar of the American authorities, who started tracking him in the late spring of last year, Riedel was quoted as saying.

Headley’s plea agreement with the government was not his first. After being sentenced for drug trafficking in the 1990s, he served as an informant in Pakistan for the Drug Enforcement Agency as part of a deal for a lighter sentence, the US daily said.

He was in Pakistan for the drug agency from the late 1990s until at least 2001. By 2002, he was training with Lashkar, raising the possibility that he had made contact with the militants while still working for the drug agency, the Times suggested.

Osama Bin Laden threatens US if 9/11 mastermind executed, plans to attack and kill US non-Muslims from Afghan-Pak-India-Somalia-Europe and even from America.

Osama issues fresh threat to US if 9/11 mastermind executed

Simon Black || Alertpak Karachi Desk.

Karachi: World’s most wanted terrorist, Osama bin Laden has warned Al-Qaeda will kill Americans if the self-confessed mastermind of the 2001 attacks on the United States, Khaled Sheikh Mohammed, is executed, in an audiotape aired Thursday ( 25th March, 2010) by Al-Jazeera television.

“The day America will take such decision [to execute Khalid Mohamed and any others] it would have taken a decision to execute whoever we capture,” Bin Laden said in the latest audio record, broadcast on Al-Jazeera.

Osama also said that US president Barack Obama was “following the footsteps of his predecessor”, a reference to George Bush, the former US president.

“The politicians in the White House were practicing injustice against us and still they are. Especially by supporting Israel in its continuous occupation of Palestine.

“They used to think that America across the oceans is protected from the rage of the oppressed until our reaction was loudly heard at your home on the 9/11 with God’s help,” he said in the recording.

Osama’s threat comes as Obama administration has announced it would try Khalid Mohammed and four other accused at a New York courthouse just steps from where the World Trade Centre once stood.

Sheikh Mohammed Khaled and the other accused are detained at Guantanamo as they await trial over the September 11, 2001 attacks that killed close to 3,000 people, most in New York.

Osama bin Laden’s last audio recording was released on January 24, earlier this year in which he claimed responsibility for alleged attempted attack on an airliner on Christmas Day and vowed there would be further attacks on the US unless Obama took steps to resolves the Palestinian situation.

From the above fresh war cry of Al-Qaeda Supremo Bin Laden against the non Muslims of US, it is evident that the mysterious existence of  Laden in any unknown place, where-ever in a remote Afghan hide-out or a protected residency in Pak border attached to Afghan territory does not lessen any threat of Al-Qaeda against the non-Muslims of Indian sub-continent, Europe or America. Experts presume various deadly attacks upon the un-warned Non-Muslim and specially Christian people all over the places under the net-work of Al-Qaeda. With a grand population blast of Muslims in Europe and America, the fundamental Muslim groups are increasing their strength to share every foot-step in Britain, Germany, Holland, France, USA, Somalia and Canada. A special  net-working has been set up by Al-Qaeda  with Teherik-i-Taliban-Pakistan (TTP) and some other Jehadist factions to materialize their Pan-Islamic Jehadi activities from Pakistan, India and UK to finish the non Muslims of Israel, India, US and UK on priority basis.  From this point a Jehad or a Crusade is inevitable to destroy the lucratively designed peace process in Afghan or Pak with a growing communal tension, murder, misunderstanding between Muslims, Jews, Christinas and Hindus.

Hindu-Sikh Minorities in Pakistan: The Vanishing Communities

by: Maloy Krishna Dhar on Saturday, March 20th, 2010

I was inspired to write this essay by a Pakistani journalist friend. Later, during a lecture tour in South East Asian countries, where Indian and Chinese origin minorities are also discriminated I noticed that the minorities are palpably anguished. The latest incidents of organized attacks by Bengali Muslims on hill dwelling Chakma tribals in Khagrachari areas firmed up my decision to chronicle a preliminary account of the conditions of the non-Muslim minorities in Pakistan. I had earlier written a piece on the plight of the Pakistani Christians. I have not touched upon the plight of the Shia and Ahmadiya (non-Muslim) communities in Pakistan, which require international attention. Not a single Indian Muslim religious seminary has so far condemned Pakistan for inhuman treatment of the Shia and Ahmadiya communities.

I am indebted to a member of the Pakistan Human Rights Commission and several young Pakistani writers who have boldly portrayed the pitiable condition of the minorities in Pakistan. Their voices are drowned in wilderness. The normal civil society members are also ashamed of these developments. However, I do not want to name them fearing visitations by the ISI goons.

Jinnah had said in his speech to the new nation created, called Pakistan, on August 17, 1947 to assure that his fiefdom, for which he fought relentlessly and even organized the Great Direct Action Pogrom of Calcutta in August 1946, to assure the national minorities, after 3 millions were killed in communal riots and several million escaped to the safety of Hindustan: “You are free; free to go to your temples, you are free to go to your mosques, or to any other place of worship in the State of Pakistan. You may belong to any religion or caste or creed-that has nothing to do with the business of the State…We are starting with this fundamental principles that we are all citizens and equal citizens of our State.”

People conversant with Jinnah’s rise as a rabid communal Muslim leader (Jaswant Singh’s white washing aside) know that Jinnah Kathiawadi lived by deceit and died in neglect (recall his Quetta visit, breakdown of his car on way to Karachi and apathetic attitude of the people in power). He was not even a practicing Muslim (a Shia), but pleaded fanatic Muslim causes. He never tried to rescue Muslim politics from the clutches of the maulanas. He was the person who boycotted the 1937 interim governments in the Central Legislative Assembly and Congress led provinces. He fabricated or organized the fabrication of charges against Congress’ ruthless suppression of the Muslims. One after another memorandum was submitted to the Governor General; all bundles of lies. The grand finale of Jinnah’s bunches of lies and prevarication included Calcutta pogrom in collaboration with Suhrawardy government, deceitful refusal to sign the Mountbatten Plan for partition, backing out from original agreement that Mountbatten would be the common Governor General for India and Pakistan and finally throwing a grand inaugural lunch on 16th August, a day of Ramadan (later shifted to dinner).

With such track record of prevarication, fabrication and falsehood Jinnah’s 17th August 1947 speech assuring the minority was then and even now treated as crocodile’s tears. If he were a democrat he would have not chosen the machetes to kill. He could not stop killing of the Hindu and other minorities in Pakistan even after he assumed the gaddi of the Governor General in true Hollywood style. Since Jinnah the Hindu minorities have continued to suffer in Pakistan and now they have become an endangered community. Those interested may read Jinnah of Pakistan by Stanley Wolpert and Mountbatten’s Report on the Last Viceroyalty, edited by Lionel Carter.

For which Pakistan Jinnah had struggled? His idea of Pakistan was limited to the vision of Dr. Iqbal-whole of Punjab, Sind, Balochistan, NWFP, FATA areas and Kashmir. He had no plan for Bengal and Assam and other Muslim majority areas in India. Later the Bangistan theory of Chaudhry Rahmat Ali propelled the Pakistan protagonists to amalgamate Bengal and Assam and create the eastern wing of Pakistan.

However, it must be said to the credit of Jinnah that in the absence of Dr. Iqbal and any other Muslim poet he could trust, he had commissioned a Hindu to write the original national anthem of Pakistan. India and Pakistan have another anomalous situation in common. Iqbal, the progenitor of Pakistan, had composed the national song Sare Jahan se Accha—. It is still used as one of the national songs. Jinnah, on the other hand had summoned Jagannath Azad, son of Lahore-based poet Tilok Chand Mahroom, just three days before the creation of Pakistan, to write the country’s first national anthem. It had stirred up a debate in that country. It is claimed that Jinnah sowed the seed of secularism by inviting Jagannath Azad to write the national anthem. However, Pakistan’s first national anthem composed by a Hindu was discarded by Pakistan in 1950. What a great disrespect to the father of the nation! Some leading Pakistani thinkers correctly said that Pakistan exists on the venom of anti-Hindu elixir.

Demographic distribution of Hindus in Pakistan
Demographic distribution of Hindus in Pakistan (source Wikipedia)

At the time of Partition in 1947, the Hindu population of Pakistan was estimated at approximately a quarter of the total population. For example, the population of Karachi, Pakistan in 1947 was 450,000, of which 51% was Hindu, and 42% was Muslim. By 1951, Karachi’s population had increased to 1.137 million because of the influx of 600,000 Muslim refugees from India. In 1951, the Muslim population of Karachi was 96% and the Hindu population was 2%. In 1998, the Hindu population in all of Pakistan was 1.6%, and the most recent census would certainly be expected to demonstrate consistent dwindling demographic trends and further diminution of Hindu population.

Pakistan Christian “Burnt”, Wife “Raped”, For Refusing Islam. The Christian Man died later.

PAK NEWS ALERT: Pakistan Christian “Burnt”, Wife “Raped”, For Refusing Islam

Saturday, March 20, 2010 (12:06 pm)

By BosNewsLife Asia Service reporting from Pakistan

RAWALPINDI, PAKISTAN (BosNewsLife)– A Christian man was fighting for his life in Pakistan’s Punjab province Saturday, March 20, after Muslim leaders backed by police burnt him alive for refusing to convert to Islam, while his wife was raped by police officers, Christian and hospital sources familiar with the case told BosNewsLife.

Arshed Masih was burnt Friday, March 19, in front of a police station in the city of Rawalpindi near Pakistan’s capital Islamabad, following apparent death threats from his Muslim employer Sheikh Mohammad Sultan, an influential businessman, and religious leaders, said the Rawalpindi Holy Family Hospital.

His wife, Martha Arshed, was allegedly raped by police officers. Their three children — ranging in age from 7 to 12–  were reportedly forced to witness the attacks against their parents.

“Both [Masih] and wife were rushed to the Holy Family Hospital and are under treatment,” the hospital said.

He was listed in serious condition with about 80 percent of his body burnt.

Local police officials said they were “aware” of the attacks carried out by Muslim leaders and apparently at least some officers and added that an investigation was underway. No arrests were reported yet late Saturday, March 19.

Sheikh Mohammad Sultan could not immediately be reached for comment and it was not clear whether he had been in contact with police Saturday, March 20.

Before tensions emerged about their Christian faith, Masih worked as a driver and his wife as a maid for the Muslim businessman since 2005, Christians said.

The couple apparently lived with their children in the servant quarters of Sultan’s estate in Rawalpindi, a key trade and tourist destination. In January, religious leaders and Sultan allegedly asked Arshed to convert to Islam with his whole family.  After he refused, the group reportedly threatened him with “dire consequences”.

Arshed offered to quit his job, but the businessman allegedly said he would “kill” him if he were to leave.

He apparently also told Christian mediators that he would never allow the Christian family to live somewhere else.

This week tensions rose after Sultan reported a theft of 500,000 Pakistani Rupees (5,952$), according to a document seen by BosNewsLife.

The Christian family members were not named as suspects in the so-called ‘First Information Report’  from police.

Sources familiar with the situation, who asked not to be identified for security reasons, told BosNewsLife that the businessman had offered the couple to drop the case if they convert to Islam or “else that both would not see their children again.”

However, “Arshed refused to convert and stood firm in his faith. Arshed`s wife was raped by the police and he was burnt alive,” Friday, March 19, local Christians said, speaking on condition of anonimity.

The case comes at a time when church groups have complained about growing attacks against minority Christians by Muslim militants, often with the alleged support by local law enforcement officials and other authorities. (BosNewsLife Asia Service includes BosNewsLife correspondents often working in difficult circumstances. In some cases, including this report, their names are not mentioned due to security concerns. Terrorism fuels a Dangerous Plan to Split Pakistan from USA.

Washington, D.C. 20520

Attn:  Mr. Donn Titus

Subject :

(1) Declare Pakistan a Terrorist State

(2)Seize Pakistan’s Nuclear Facilities immediately

(3)Break up Pak into four Independent States

Dear Mr. Titus:

On behalf of Indian American Intellectuals Forum (IAIF), I am very happy to present this  Memorandum to you.  IAIF is an advocacy group organized and established under the laws of the State of New York since 1999.  Our objectives are to strengthen the Indo-American relations and create awareness among our citizens about the menace of terrorism.

In this connection, we would like to state that in 1999, we were given an opportunity by the State Department to meet their staff and present our viewpoint about what action should be taken against Pakistan to save the globe from the curse of terrorism.  In the past eleven years since then, the world situation has not just gone from bad to worse but it has actually assumed alarmingly dangerous proportions.

In that period of time, Pakistan has literally become a hub of Islamic fundamentalists.  There are more than one million Taliban studying in Pakistani Madrasas (Islamic religious schools). Pakistani society by now has been completely radicalized.  Pakistan has become not only a nuclear power but also a nuclear proliferating country.  Since no serious attention was paid to our similar plea in 1999 regarding declaring Pakistan a terrorist state then, the world had to pay a very heavy price for creating this Frankenstein.

Pakistan is using terrorism as a tool for its foreign policy to accomplish its political objectives.  Notorious terrorists – Syed Salahuddin, the head of United Jihad Council, Hafiz Abdur Rahman Makki, the leader of terror amalgam Jamaat-ul-Dawah and brother-in-law of Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Saeed; Dowd Ibrahim, chief of the dreaded Company D; Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar; LeT terrorists Azam Cheema, chief Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami, Qari Saifullah Akhtar, Ilyas Kashmiri – and other terror groups are working at the beck and call of Pakistan.  All the above individuals and groups are notorious for ruthlessly murdering innocent people in the name of Allah.   The dastardly beheading of two Sikhs in Pakistan by Taliban is the latest instance of that policy.

Most terror training camps in Pakistan are running under the nose of and in close collaboration with Pakistan’s spy agency ISI. Pakistan authorities have turned a blind eye to the 6.5 acre terror training base, in the south of Punjab province. Here, the outlawed terror group Jaishe-e-Mohammad, linked with 2001 attack on the Indian Parliament and then beheading of US journalist Daniel Pearl, is setting up a large new base just outside the Bahawalpur town in Pakistan’s Punjab province with anti-India inscriptions on its walls, The Sunday Telegraph had reported.

It is alleged that massacre of seven CIA agents at a Forward Operating Base in Afghanistan was masterminded by Ilyas Kashmiri, a Pakistani commando-turned-jihadist.  Again, this is the same Ilyas Kashmiri, the Commander of another terror outfit HuJi, who has issued a global warning to the Cricket players against visiting and playing in India.

Lashkar-e-Taiba al-Alami, an unknown terrorist group which has claimed responsibility for the Pune blasts near Mumbai (in India) in which 17 people were killed is following an al-Qaida agenda of targeting the US and its allies, such as Israel and India.

It is reported  that David Coleman Headley (Daood Gilani) and Mohammad Amjad Khwaja who were arrested by the FBI in Chicago in October last year have told their American interrogators that  ISI in collaboration with HuJi and Lashkar-e-Toiba has put together a team of Indian Jihadists in Karachi for sending them back into India on another terror project.

In an interview to Indian Express dated Feb. 5, 2010, Pulitzer Prize-winner Steve Coll who is the author of two defining books: Ghost Wars and The Bin Ladens, said that “India’s security problems are graver than America’s in relation to the Jihadi terrorism.”

Ironically, the US has given Pakistan $15 billion dollars to fight the Al Qaida in Pakistan.  In the meantime, Pakistan has only been dilly dallying and fooling us; many Taliban groups actually provide shelter to Al Qaida.  US Director of National Intelligence Dennis Blair has said that “Islamabad’s conviction that militant groups are an important part of its strategic arsenal to counter India’s military and economic advantages will continue to limit Pakistan’s incentive to pursue an across-the-board effort against extremism.”

One biggest difficulty we face is our ignorance of the tenets of Koran, Hadith and Sira. As such we formulate our policies on assumption that there are two sets of Muslims: moderates and radicals.  In reality, contrary to the popular perception, every mainstream Islamic school teaches the necessity to subjugate unbelievers, by force or by any means and bring them under the hegemony of Islamic law.

Last Month, US Vice President Joe Biden said in Washington that his greatest concern was not Afghanistan nor threat of Iran turning nuclear. His biggest worry was Pakistan, which he said had a significant radicalized population and only a “functional democracy.” Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has also stated that Iran was not as great a threat to the global security as other nuclear-proliferating countries such as North Korea and Pakistan.

Expressing concern over the increasing Taliban threat in Pakistan, Israel’s Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said Israel considers Pakistan as its biggest strategic threat than Iran. U.S. intelligence officials also believe that the homicide bomb attack that killed seven CIA officers in Afghanistan last month was planned with the help of Osama bin Laden‘s close allies.  It is well to remember that Al Qaida jihadists are fully protected by Taliban who in turn are hands in glove with Pakistan.

Intelligence inputs received by Indian officials indicate that Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba has acquired as many as 50 para-gliding equipments from China for the potential use to launch suicide attacks in India. This, obviously, could not be accomplished without Pakistan’s active connivance, complicity and tactical support.

Amid political turbulence in Pakistan, and heightened fears about the Taliban and other extremist groups seizing the country’s nuclear assets, there has been a rapid expansion of Islamabad’s nuclear armaments. US Joint Chief of Staff Chairman Admiral Mike Mullen, in a confidential briefing, told members of Congress that some reports have confirmed that Islamabad is rapidly adding to its nuclear arsenal. President of the Institute for Science and International Security, David Albright has said that Pakistan was scaling up its centrifuge facilities.  This could destabilize the entire South Asia.

Even though it is clearly acknowledged that Pakistan has become an epicenter of terrorism, the US Congress is still considering proposals to spend 3 billion dollars over the next five years to train and equip Pakistan’s military for counter-insurgency warfare. This is in addition to 7.5 billion dollars that the Capitol Hill has already promised in civilian assistance.

We should also take a serious note of Pakistan’s disgraced scientist A.Q. Khan’s statement that Pakistan helped Iran acquire the nuclear technology with an objective to jointly emerge as a “strong block” in the region so that they can effectively counter the international pressure and ‘neutralize’ Israel’s power.  Imagine the situation when the Islamic Pakistan and Islamic Iran will jointly challenge and blackmail the civilized world.

It is also a well known fact that Dawood Ibrahim’s D Company is a “5,000-member criminal syndicate operating mostly in Pakistan, India, and the United Arab Emirate.”  This company has a “strategic alliance” with Pakistan’s ISI and has “forged relationships with Islamists, including Lashkar-e-Taiba and al-Qaida.”

Some press accounts further report that Ibrahim’s underworld network may have provided a boat to the 10 terrorists who killed 178 people in Mumbai (India) on 26/11 and record that the “US government contends that D-Company has found common cause with Al Qaida and shares its smuggling routes with that terrorist group.”

The US Department of Treasury has already designated Ibrahim as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) in 2006 and President Bush designated him as a Significant Foreign Narcotics Trafficker under the Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation Act. It is a matter of disgust and shame that Pakistan shelters Dawood Ibrahim but denies his presence in the country in order to prevent his prosecution or extradition to India or US.

According to India’s National Security Advisor, there are over 800 terror cells operating in India with “external support.” Nuclear physicist and author Dr. Moorthy Muthuswamy has elucidated in his new book how passionately this jihadist infrastructure was developed in a span of over twenty years, aided by funding from the Middle East. The desire to conquer India violently for Islam is an aspiration of many nations and is seen in many a Muslim quarter as a must for creating an Islamic caliphate.

Instead of penalizing Pakistan for its support to the notorious terrorists and spreading global terrorism, US, unfortunately, is rewarding this country with the deadly weapons and billions of dollars of hard cash.  We believe it is inappropriate for US to prop up Pakistan and balance its strategic partnership with India by selling deadly F-16 to Pakistan Air Force (the total number of  F-16 in 2010 will be 54 as per Institute for Defense Studies and Analyses) together with other advanced weapons and avionics for air-to-air combat that appear to us unnecessary for counter-insurgency operations in mountainous area against Taliban.  This is being done in spite of the admission by General Musharraf’s that Pakistan is modifying the arms, which are meant to fight the terrorists, for use against India.

Let us understand and recognize that Pakistan is a failed state.  Its economy is in shambles.  Fissiparous forces are pulling the country in different directions to tear it apart.  Nationalist movements in Balochistan, Sind and Baltistan are gaining momentum.  In Karachi, Sunni and Shi’a, Mohajirs and Sindhis, Pathans and Mohajirs are flying at each other’s throat.  Murder and mayhem is the order of the day all around.  Thousands of young Sindhi Muslims are joining Jiye Sind movement.  Balochisthan Liberation Army is working strenuously to gain freedom from the Punjabi domination. Minority Balti Shi’a in Baltistan feel suffocated and subjugated under Punjabi army in Pakistan.  In nutshell, there is turmoil all over Pakistan.

We should recognize in unambiguous terms that Pakistan is the root cause of terror and instability in that region.  In order to win the war in Afghanistan it is essential that American war strategy should be focused on Pakistan.  In the next 18 months, American troops will be leaving Af-Pak region.  Hence, it is incumbent on us to divide Pakistan into four states before Pakistani army and Islamic fundamentalists take over Afghanistan again.

In view of the above, we believe, it is absolutely necessary that US devise appropriate measures to: (a) Declare Pakistan a terrorist state, (bi) Seize Pakistan’s nuclear facilities immediately, and (c) Break up Pakistan into four Independent States to weaken its terror-producing capacity.

Very truly yours,

Narain Kataria

Pakistan refuses to close 42 ‘terror’ camps: India

Thu, 18 Mar, 2010 | Rabi-us-Sani 1, 1431

VASCO: India on Wednesday said 42 militant training camps were operating in Pakistan and accused the country’s government of making little effort to close them.

The accusation came after the foreign secretaries of India and Pakistan met last month for the first official talks since the 2008 attacks on Mumbai, which India blames on Pakistani militants.

“There are 42 terror camps in Pakistan (and) all the terrorist camps are active,” Defence Minister A.K. Antony said at a military function in Goa state.

“Pakistan has not taken serious steps to destroy these terror camps,” he said.

India blames the Pakistan-based Islamist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) for the Mumbai attacks, which left 166 people dead and another 300 injured.

The recent talks between the nations resulted only in a promise that both sides would stay in communication.

“As far as the dialogue is concerned, India will explore all possibilities but I don’t expect any miracles,” Antony said.

Pakistani Lashkar’s true goal : India, not only Kashmir.

Aim to set up Islamic state in South Asia: Experts

Ashish Kumar Sen writes from Washington||The Tribune, Chandigarh, India, Sunday, March 14, 2010

Recent actions by Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) have fuelled a belief in Washington that the militant group’s agenda is much broader than a resolution of the Kashmir dispute between India and Pakistan.

At a congressional hearing this week, analysts made the point that LeT would no longer be satisfied if India and Pakistan resolve their differences over Kashmir. Ashley Tellis at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace told the panel of lawmakers that there was no doubt in his mind that a way must be found to settle issues related to Kashmir, but, he added, “I think resolving Kashmir is not going to solve the problems relating to LeT.”

Shuja Nawaz of the Atlantic Council echoed that opinion. “Resolving the Kashmir problem by itself is not going to remove this threat because the aim of these groups is to leverage themselves into a position of power inside Pakistan and to take control,” he said.

Nawaz noted that successive civilian and military leaders in Pakistan had supported LeT as what he described as a “strategic asset” to counter India and force it to negotiate a settlement on Kashmir “by waging a war of… a thousand cuts.”

Over time, LeT took a life of its own, he said, and found the economically backward regions of Pakistan’s Punjab province to be a fertile ground for recruiting militants.

Nawaz said Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency lost control of LeT as the group became self-sufficient. “Similar to the disbanding of the Iraqi Army after the US invasion when thousands of trained soldiers and officers were let go, the LeT was cut loose without a comprehensive plan to disarm, retrain, and gainfully employ the fighters,” he added.

Earlier this year, Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Mohammad Saeed, the alleged mastermind of the Mumbai attacks, accused India of imposing war on Pakistan by constructing “illegal dams” and diverting the water of Pakistani rivers.

In a fiery diatribe at the launch of a “nationwide protest,” Saeed called upon the Pakistani government to prepare the country to counter this aggression. This focus on water issues has added credence to an opinion held by a growing majority that Kashmir is merely a red herring raised by LeT and its affiliates.

“LeT represents… a Frankenstein’s monster created for the purpose of assisting the Kashmiri freedom movement but that ended up becoming a powerful Sunni Punjabi movement with an independent agenda that appears to have taken on a broader regional role,” Nawaz contended.

Responding to questions raised by congressmen, Tellis said, “I always find it interesting that the people conducting the murder and mayhem (in the valley) today are not Kashmiri. The people who actually are deprived of all their political rights. The murder and mayhem is being conducted by groups that have absolutely no connections to Kashmir. To my mind … the fact that this is a group that has operations in 21 countries, that has an ideology that is completely anti-western, that is opposed to modernity and secularism and all the kinds of values that we take for granted. This group is not going to be satisfied by dealing with the issue of Kashmir.”

While the panel’s co-chair, Dan Burton, Indiana Republican, was insistent that the resolution of Kashmir should be the No. 1 issue for everyone involved, subcommittee chairman Gary Ackerman, New York Democrat, disagreed. Ackerman cautioned against the temptation to think that LeT is interested only in the “liberation” of Kashmir. “The LeT’s true goal is not Kashmir, it is India. And the LeT is not shy about announcing that its intention is to establish an Islamic state in all South Asia. Neither does it hide or try to play down its declaration of war against all Hindus and Jews, who they insist are enemies of Islam,” he said.

Pak connection with Pune ‘German Bakery restaurant’ blast terror

Pakistan-trained terrorists behind Pune blast: India

Rabi-ul-Awwal 29, 1431||DawnNews.

NEW DELHI: Indian Home Secretary Gopal Pillai has said that a bombing that killed 16 people in Pune last month was carried out by home-grown Islamists with alleged links to militants in Pakistan, reports Reuters.

“All the evidence which is coming currently is showing that it is the IM (Indian Mujahideen), rather than a Hindu militant group, involved in the Pune blast,” he told Reuters in an interview on Monday.

Mr Pillai alleged that Indian Mujahideen operatives were being trained in Pakistan and had links with the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba.

“The handlers are the same, the set of handlers which was involved in Mumbai,” the official said, referring to the weekend arrest of two suspected IM operatives in the city who were believed to be planning bomb attacks, including in the offices of energy firm Oil and Natural Gas Corp.

He said the growing power of the LeT was a big threat to peace in the region and the militant group was spreading its tentacles beyond India and Pakistan.

“At least in the Middle East we find people. In Dubai, in Sharjah, in Saudi Arabia, the tentacles are there of the Lashkar-e-Taiba,” he said.

He said the LeT had even spread to Hong Kong and Singapore.

Mr Pillai said the reason there had not been a repetition of an attack like the Mumbai carnage of 2008 was 25 per cent due to geopolitics and Pakistan holding back, perhaps fearing Indian retaliation, and 75 per cent due to the busting of at least 14 IM cells since then.

“There are several modules still there… Our real fear is something they are doing now for something in 2011 or 2012. We do not know who is doing it,” he added.

Sixteen militants killed as jets pound Orakzai hideouts

PESHAWAR: Fighter planes bombed Taliban positions in the northwest on Sunday, killing 16 militants and destroying three hideouts, a government official said.

Militants have gone on the offensive again after a recent lull in violence, challenging government assertions that an assault in the militant stronghold of South Waziristan had dealt a major blow to Pakistan’s al Qaeda-backed Taliban.

The airstrikes came after a week of bombings which killed 81 people, including soldiers, policemen and aid workers in the northwest and eastern regions of Pakistan.

Khaista Akbar, a government official, told Reuters the fighter jets carried out the strikes in the Ghund Mela village of Orakzai, an ethnic Pashtun tribal region.

“They carried out intense bombings and precisely targeted militant hideouts,” he said.

The bombing killed 16 militants and completely destroyed three hideouts, he said.

The Pakistani Taliban have attacked many targets, including a volleyball match and army headquarters in the town of Rawalpindi, close to the capital, Islamabad.
